Free Dog Trainers
Welcome to Free Dog Trainers
We are starting a nonprofit organization that wants to revolutionize how we support people and dogs in our communities through Free Dog Trainers. Our mission is simple and specific: Provide access to education and support from skilled dog professionals to members of the public. This includes one-on-one dog training, group classes, webinars, seminars, etc.
Our first funding goal was just enough to file for 501(c)3 nonprofit status with the IRS, and we surpassed that goal in the first 24 hours of launching. Now, we need put out some marketing materials so people know what we’re offering, get basic infrastructure (like a computer.) After that, most importantly, we need to make sure our staff of expert trainers can pay their rent and feed themselves.
Founding this nonprofit is Devan Amundsen. Devan is a certified dog trainer and behavior consultant with 15 years of experience working with dogs of all kinds, including working dogs. Devan has worked with nonprofit organizations for the entirety of his career, working every job in animal sheltering from kennel technician up to animal shelter manager. During his time in animal sheltering, Devan frequently offered low-cost or free services to people who needed support for their pets. Post-animal sheltering, Devan has been teaching college students about dog training, behavior, and of course animal sheltering. As part of his Bachelor of Science students’ curriculum, Devan oversaw the students leading their own free dog training group classes. These classes ran for 6 weeks, with three classes running at the same time around Rohnert Park. These classes helped over 50 people and their pets during that pilot. This pilot program was presented at the 2024 HSUS Pet Expo to attendees from around the world as a model program.
Our local community is just the starting point. Next up is taking this idea out to wherever there are people and pets who need support. (Which is literally everywhere.)
